Eyewear Care and Storage Guide

17 Sep 2026
Protective hard shell EBJDE eyeglass case for everyday eyewear storage

A good eyewear care routine is simple: remove loose debris before wiping, use lens-safe cleaning materials, handle the frame with both hands and store the glasses in a case that fits. These habits help reduce avoidable scratches, coating damage and frame distortion.

Eyewear Cleaning & Care Learning Center

Use this guide as the main EBJDE cleaning-and-care hub. Start by removing grit, choose a coating-compatible cleaning method, keep cloths and cases clean, and use the material-specific guides below when the mess or frame needs extra care.

Clean lenses without grinding in dust

Begin with clean hands. When practical, rinse the glasses with lukewarm water to remove grit, then use a small amount of mild lotion-free dish soap or a cleaner approved for the lens coating. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a clean microfiber cloth. Follow the lens manufacturer's instructions when they differ.

What to avoid when cleaning

  • Do not wipe dusty lenses dry with a shirt, tissue or paper towel.
  • Avoid hot water, which may be unsuitable for some coatings and frame materials.
  • Do not use household window cleaner, bleach or abrasive cleaners.
  • Do not use a dirty microfiber cloth that contains oils or grit.
  • Do not force water-sensitive electronic eyewear or special materials under a tap; follow the product instructions.

Handle the frame evenly

Put glasses on and remove them with both hands when possible. Folding one temple repeatedly while twisting the frame can loosen hinges and distort alignment. Set glasses down with the lenses facing upward, not directly against a hard surface.

A clean, correctly sized interior helps keep the frame from moving against hard objects.

Choose a case that matches the risk

A hard shell is usually the safer choice inside a crowded backpack, luggage or work bag because it resists crushing. A soft pouch is lighter and convenient for controlled storage, but it provides less structural protection. Whichever you choose, the case should close without pressing on the frame or hinges.

Keep the case clean

Dust and grit inside a case can transfer to lenses. Empty the case periodically and clean it according to its material. Let both the glasses and case dry before closing them for long periods. Store a microfiber cloth folded beside the frame rather than wedged tightly against the lenses.

Daily, weekly and occasional care

Daily

Remove visible smudges safely, check the nose pads and place the glasses in their case when not worn.

Weekly

Clean the frame edges, nose pads and temples; wash the microfiber cloth as directed without fabric softener; inspect screws and hinges for obvious looseness.

Occasionally

Ask an optical professional to correct persistent misalignment, replace worn parts or assess damaged coatings and lenses.

Heat, vehicles and travel

Avoid leaving glasses in direct sun on a vehicle dashboard or near high heat. During travel, use a closed case and keep heavy items from resting on it. For multiple pairs, separate them so frames and lenses cannot rub together.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use alcohol on eyeglass lenses?

Only when the lens or coating manufacturer confirms compatibility. Use a product specifically approved for your eyewear.

How often should I wash a microfiber cloth?

Wash it when it becomes oily or soiled, following its care label and avoiding fabric softener that can leave residue.

Should I store glasses with the temples open?

Most cases are designed for folded temples. Fold them gently in the normal order and never force the case closed.
