Costa Del Mar Fantail Replacement Lens Guide

If you are shopping for Costa Del Mar Fantail replacement lenses, identify the exact Fantail frame before you order. Costa’s current Fantail M is listed as size 59-14, with a 59.2 mm lens width, 38.8 mm lens height and Base 8 wrap. Costa also sells a Fantail XL with different dimensions, so “Fantail” by itself is not enough to guarantee a match.

Start with the frame, not the old lens color

Look inside both temple arms for identifying marks. Compare the model name, size markings and frame shape with the replacement-lens listing. Costa’s official Fantail M specifications show 59-14 sizing and a high-wrap Base 8 lens curve. That wrap makes edge shape and curvature particularly important.

If your frame is marked differently, or if you own a Fantail XL, do not assume a Fantail M lens will fit. A lens that is slightly wrong can sit proud of the groove, pop out under flex or require unsafe force during installation. The EBJDE Fantail product page identifies a compatible model family rather than guaranteeing every Fantail size or generation, so your own frame markings and lens outline remain the deciding references.

Choose the optical treatment for your environment

Costa’s own current Fantail configurations include polarized 580P polycarbonate and 580G glass options. Aftermarket replacement lenses are separate products, so compare their stated material and optical specifications rather than assuming they duplicate Costa’s original lens technology.

For fishing and boating, polarization is commonly chosen to reduce reflected glare. For general daily wear, tint, visible-light transmission and impact resistance may matter just as much. If you are deciding whether polarization is useful for your replacement pair, read Polarized vs Non-Polarized Sunglasses.

Installation checks

1. Compare left and right lens outlines with the frame openings.
2. Check the edge bevel and wrap against the original lens.
3. Inspect coatings before applying pressure.
4. Seat the lens gradually and stop if excessive force is needed.

Fantail M vs Fantail XL

The Fantail name is used across more than one size. Costa’s current Fantail M and Fantail XL have different lens dimensions, so always use the markings on your own frame as the deciding reference. Model family alone is not enough.

FAQ

Are EBJDE replacement lenses OEM Costa lenses?

No. EBJDE replacement lenses are independent aftermarket products designed for compatible frames where stated. Costa and Fantail are used only to identify compatibility; EBJDE is not affiliated with or endorsed by Costa Del Mar.

Does lens color determine fit?

No. Fit is determined by geometry, model and size. Tint, mirror and polarization are optical choices made after compatibility is confirmed.

Can I install Fantail lenses myself?

Many owners replace sunglass lenses at home, but high-wrap frames require careful technique. Stop if the lens will not seat naturally and use an eyewear professional if you are unsure.
